THE TRANSFER PROCEDURE AT ICON PLUS

ICON PLUS, unless otherwise agreed, will provide you with reels of developed negative 35 mm film to be further processed at any film laboratory of your choice.

ICON PLUS will provide you with all the necessary instructions or will even undertake the double check of the developed negatives' match to the edited master video tape.

Itinerary:

  1. Accept delivery of the movie's edited master video tape at ICON PLUS, if possible in frames (not in fields), divided into acts, with all BEEP optical synchs edited at the beginning of each and every act and of the negative film needed for the transfer procedure.
  2. If necessary, the carrying out of tests to decide on:
    - The type of negative film suitable for the movies' needs, and
    - To appropriately calibrate the transfer system's parameters to meet the movies' aesthetic needs with regard to its cinematographic appeal.
  3. Once the decisions have been made for the above, the transfer procedure can begin.
  4. The transfer procedure is carried out on a 24 hours per day basis. The transfer procedure comprises two stages:
Stage 1: Uncompressed capture of the movies' sequences for further image processing and increase in images' analysis up to 2K per frame.
Stage 2: Frame by frame transfer of each video frame to 35 mm film.
  5. Each system's transfer productivity is 12 minutes of video edited material per working day.
  6. The transferred 35 mm negative film can be partially delivered to you act by act, so that you can sequentially proceed with the act by act film and sound development to meet deadlines.
  7. Once you receive the reels of negative film you need to have them further processed at a film laboratory of your choice.
  8. It is time to check if there are any problems with the negative film. The fastest and most cost effective way to do this is as follows:

We should reproduce video copies from all reels of the developed negative film via Telecine. We make sure that the film's Key code is recorded on the videotape.

A videotape with the whole movie will be reproduced from all of the video tapes that were made from the developed negative films' "Telecine". This videotape will be used as a guide to check that it exactly matches the movies' master video used for the transfer to film.

In the unlikely event of a missing or corrupted frame etc., ICON PLUS will proceed in all the necessary retakes of sequences where the problem was detected (at no extra charge).
  9. Once convinced that there are no mistakes in the transferred movie, we can proceed with the negative cut.
  10. The editor would appreciate using the final videotape (bearing the film key codes clearly marked on it) as a guide. He should also be provided with an EDL list to help him with the final cut.
